Jamestown Apex Club Presents 24' Drought Resilience at its Best

Media Release 3/12/2024
The Jamestown Apex Club are proud to present ’24 Drought – Resilience at its Best to the Mid North of South Australia.
Drought has had a profound impact on communities across South Australia, and its effects are being felt now more than ever. With 2024 shaping up to be one of the driest years on record, the agricultural industry, which contributes over $14 billion annually to South Australia’s economy, is particularly vulnerable. Apex is organising ’24 Drought – Resilience at its BEST, a community event aimed at supporting those affected by drought. It will provide a space for people to come together, access vital services, and share in food, fellowship, and solidarity during these challenging times.
The club could see how much the ongoing drought was impacting the whole region, so made the decision to host an event for everyone impacted, choosing to keep it as low cost as possible.
They have sourced funding from numerous grant applications and sponsorship from various organisations, all of whom could see there was a need to do something for the community but didn’t have the means to put something on in their own capacity.
The Jamestown Apex Club have been overwhelmed with the support they have received, with the Northern Areas Council one of the first businesses to jump onboard and support the event.
Initially the club was looking to host the event for those directly impacted by the drought, but upon further review, realised that whole communities are impacted and suffering, so have opened the event up to everyone in the region.
’24 Drought – Resilience at its Best is being held on Saturday the 14th of December from 4pm at Victoria Park in Jamestown. The club were asked why they chose Jamestown to host the event, and it came down to the town being central to the region, and the ability to use multiple buildings to host the different sessions of the event. There will be things on the oval, the shearing shed stand, in the footy clubrooms and in the Big Shed, it made sense to host it at a venue that can cater for as many people as possible.
The event will be split into three main sections:
Part 1: Interactive Sessions (4:30 PM – 6:00 PM)
Attendees will choose from one of three concurrent sessions:
Session A: "Cheese, Champagne, and Chit Chat" held in the Football Clubrooms, offering a relaxed space for conversation with the addition of Bron from Pinion providing insight into brain chemistry during challenging times like these.
Session B: Fun and games for kids, including laser tag, sessions with sports stars, jumping castles, face painting, Bizzy Bugs & free Thomas the Tank Engine rides
Session C: "B & B" (Beer & Bullshit) held in the shearing shed area, with some large games, live entertainment and old school fun to be had.
Part 2: Available Services (6:00PM – 6:30 PM)
There will be some time for available services to provide a face to the name or voice and jump up on the main stage to give a very quick run-down of the services available to help throughout this challenging time, including some of the incredible sponsors of the event.
Part 3: Evening Entertainment (6:30PM onwards)
Once the sessions conclude, a communal meal will be served by Smoking Grillers for the adults with kid’s meals also provided. The famous Lion’s Hot Cinamon Donuts will be served along with Giant Twins for those with a sweet tooth.
The meal will be followed by live entertainment, with a local artists will perform on the shearing shed stage, a roving magician will entertain children, and a photo booth will be set up for free mementos. Laser Tag will still be available, and the footy clubrooms will transform into a movie theatre for those little ones looking for some chill out time, with bean bags, popcorn and fairy floss available.
The event will be low-cost for attendees, with free food & soft drinks provided, and alcoholic beverages available at a low price.
’24 Drought – Resilience at its Best is designed to provide an essential sense of community, to share the burdens of drought, and to boost spirits as the year-end holidays approach. By bringing families and individuals together, the event will promote mental well-being and offer crucial support to those in need. It is an event for everyone, that couldn’t happen without the incredible support of all of our sponsors who will be acknowledged on the night and through the Jamestown Apex Club’s Facebook page.
