The District Council of Orroroo Carrieton Cr Kathie Bowman has been recognized for length of service by the LGA SA last week.

Cr Bowman was presented with the service award at the most recent Annual General Meeting in Adelaide, marking her 30 years of service to the District Council of Orroroo Carrieton in early 2025.

Cr Kathie Bowman was first elected to the District Council of Orroroo in early 1995. In 1997, the District Council of Orroroo amalgamated with the District Council of Carrieton and became District Council of Orroroo Carrieton.

Cr Bowman has served as Chairperson or Mayor across several terms of Council for an outstanding 16 years in total. Cr Bowman stepped down from the Mayor position in mid-2023 following retirement from farming.

Cr Bowman was a recipient of the prestigious Joy Baluch award in 2019, when recognised by the South Australian Local Government Association for her outstanding service to the community of Orroroo Carrieton and surrounds.

Throughout life in public service, Cr Bowman has been a strong voice for delivering a high standard of service in the Council area whilst maintaining financial restraint in consideration of the marginal farming country of Orroroo Carrieton, being spread across the Goyder’s Line.

Cr Bowman is extremely passionate about maintaining the financial sustainability of Councils and has served on Audit and Risk committees of both the Council and the Northern & Yorke LGA for much of her time in local government. Cr Bowman continues to be a strong advocate for the Orroroo Carrieton community, whilst now embarking on a well-earned new phase of life.

CEO Paul Simpson said “Council has benefited greatly from the experience and wealth of knowledge that Kathie brings to the table, she has been a great support for Council, the community and me personally throughout this time. Service of this length to a community should be celebrated and the commitment should be acknowledged, very few reach this milestone”.
