A SUCCESSFUL MUSTER IN ORROROO

Nearly 800 people celebrated the true meaning of community spirit at the Despite the Dust Muster on the weekend in Orroroo.

The main street was alive with great food, good times, music and laughter as the local community and visitors alike banded together in support of each other as the Grand Finale October Well Being Month Event. Orroroo has embraced the wellbeing month initiative by hosting several key events during the month and ‘painting’ the town blue.

“The Baker Boys” Band performed a long list of music favourites with a live 5-piece band on the centre stage. Rock legend Dave Gleeson from “The Screaming Jets” hosted the event as master of ceremonies and thrilled crowds by leading the band in a few of his hits. The main street came alive with fireworks and free blue glow sticks were provided for all children in esteem of October wellbeing month.

The event was funded and organised thanks to external sponsorship from: PIRSA, National Recovery & Resilience Agency, Red Cross, Mental Health Coalition and Despite the Dust 2019 Excellence in Public Health Award, Orroroo Recreation Grounds Group and District Council of Orroroo Carrieton. Local sponsorship also extended to lucky ‘check in’ giveaways of local products and SA holiday-break vouchers.

As many areas of South Australia continue to battle drought conditions in addition to the isolation caused by COVID-19 Mr Dylan Strong, CEO said that the District Council of Orroroo Carrieton worked with local volunteers to take action.

“The atmosphere was truly inspiring, we had families attend from right across South Australia and yet the main street was just one big community enjoying each other’s company.”

“Connecting as a whole community reminds us all how resilient we are and that we are in tough times together”, he said.

“It is truly inspiring to have an event like this achieve what was intended – to lift the spirits of our community in the face of some extremely trying times”, said Mr Strong.

With continued participation from local volunteers, Despite the Dust could become a main-stay on the regional event calendar.
